These are all the 2048 tiles a normal 4×4 board can hold, from the first 2 to the 131,072 tile that no one has ever made. Each tile is worth double the one before it, so there are exactly 17 of them. The table above shows what each tile looks like on this site, how many points it has earned by the time it exists, and roughly how many moves it takes to build.
How to read the table
Points earned assumes every new tile was a 2. Merging adds the new tile's value to your score, so a tile of 2k has brought in (k − 1) × 2k points. Moves, roughly divides the tile's value by 2.2, the average value of a new tile (a 2 nine times out of ten, a 4 the rest), because every point on the board has to arrive as a new tile first. Real games take a little longer, since other tiles are on the board too.
What is the highest tile in 2048?
131,072. Building a tile needs every smaller tile on the board at the same moment, and 16 cells only fit the chain from 65,536 down to 4 plus one new 4. Why are the tiles after 2048 black?
In the original game every tile above 2048 shares one dark colour, because the colour scale was designed to end at the goal. We follow the same idea: 4096 and everything after it is a near-black tile with light text, so the 2048 tile keeps its gold.
