Big 2048

Big 2048 puts the game on a much larger board. Start with 2048 8x8, which has 64 cells instead of 16, or switch to 10×10, 12×12 or a 16×16 board with 256 cells. The rules stay the same, and you can keep the 2048 goal or pick a far bigger one; what changes is how long you can keep going.

How big can the tiles get?

The largest tile an n×n board can hold is 2 to the power of (n² + 1). That is a number with 20 digits on 8×8 (36,893,488,147,419,103,232) and 78 digits on 16×16. No game will ever get there; making even a 2048 tile takes about 900 moves on any board.

The 2147483648 goal

Some versions of the game swap the 2048 target for a far bigger number, and 2147483648 (2³¹) is a favourite. Choose it with the Goal switch above the board, and the win screen waits for that tile instead. Be warned: every point on the board arrives as a new 2 or 4, so building a tile that size would take roughly a billion moves. It is an endless goal, meant for long, relaxed sessions rather than a finish line. Tiles above 99,999 are shortened on the board, so 131,072 shows as 131K and 2147483648 as 2.1B.

Playing big 2048 on a phone

The board shrinks to fit your screen, so tiles on a 16×16 board are small on a phone. 8×8 and 10×10 are comfortable on most phones; save 12×12 and 16×16 for a laptop or tablet. If you prefer something more forgiving but still compact, 2048 5x5 is a good middle ground, and the classic 2048 game is the original 4×4.
